We protruthers strongly believe that the only way to defeat disinformation is to take it head-on. When the dishonest people are actively spreading misinformation with the loudest voices possible, it's simply not enough for us to ignore these miscreants and go about our daily business.
We protruthers believe not only in always telling the truth but calling out falsehoods directly for what they are.
This blog came out of my experiences during the Presidency of Donald J Trump. Until 2016, politicians tended to bend the truth slightly, and while that was problematic - we came to accept it as the norm. We expected politicians to be honorable people, trying to look at ways to focus on facts that support their views. Donald Trump changed all this. He decided to destroy the concept of reality by spreading his own version of reality. While rational people ignored this deceit, the right-wing media and extremists spread these lies virally - to a point where America cannot agree on basic facts anymore. We are divided on pandemic management, the number of deaths, Russia's influence on our democracy, Biden's views, and many more. Frankly, it feels like we are unable to agree on any basic facts anymore. All of this came to a head when Donald Trump lost to Joe Biden during the presidential elections, and he has been trying to undermine our democracy itself. That's when I realized that we could not just ignore lies. We need to attack them head-on. We cannot just be anti-falsehood. We need to be pro-truth.
